These are shapes and patterns that I'm drawn to over and over again. Having familiar subject matter gives me ground to stand on. Working with recognizable shape eliminates trying to coax communication out of a blank piece of canvas. This, for me, is the most pleasurable way to paint, avoiding the angst and the thrill.
